The Father's Heart

Day 4 Continued: Read these passages in light of our discussion about the abundant Life found in Christ.  Make notes of what you read that is particularly meaningful to you and for what reason.  What is God revealing about Himself to you?  What is He particularly revealing personally to you?

Ephesians 2:10, John 17:3, John 4:13-14, John 6:35, John 7:37-38, Romans 5:1-5.

Now read John 1:18 and then read the text in the booklet for Day 5.

Choose one of the Gospel books of the Bible to read through for yourself, focusing on Jesus Christ.  Start today and plan and work to complete the book by March 23.

Psalm 139

Read and meditate on Psalm 139.  Offer to God prayers of praise and thanksgiving from verses within the Psalm, making them your own prayer.  Write down the verses you chose to use as prayer.

Continue seeking consistency in daily time alone with God and encouraging your accountability partner in that even while on winter break this week!

God's Love

Continue seeking time alone with God.  "Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you." James 4:8a

Read the Scriptures listed below.  As you do, write down beside each reference what that passage reveals will be reflected in our lives when we are being filled or possessed by the love of God.

Ephesians 3:16-19, II Corinthians 5: 14-15, Mark 14: 3-6 & 9, John 15:13, John 15: 9, Psalm 63: 3, Romans 8: 38 - 39, Jude 21, I Thessalonians 3: 4 - 8, Proverbs 8: 30.

God Thoughts

Continue the exercise we began in class by setting aside 10 minutes to brainstorm your personal thoughts about God.  Write down words or phrases that come to your mind regarding the thoughts and feelings you personally have about or toward God.

Read Exodus 34:1-9.  When we meet on Tuesday, I plan to ask you questions about this passage.

Write out a personal prayer to God that contains expressions of worship, repentance, and love.  This is just a personal exercise; you will not be asked to share your letters with anyone.

Continue your daily quiet times and record your track record to see the growth of your habit.  Are you encouraging your quiet time partner?

Contemplate Christ in You

Read these passages from Scripture: Acts 8: 26 - 38 and Acts 16: 16 - 34.  Review Acts 10: 1 - 11: 1 which we read in class on Tuesday.  Write down from each passage the changes that occur in the lives of the people who received Christ/believed the Gospel.

Read these passages for further contemplation: I John 5: 11-13, Colossians 1:27, II Corinthians 5:17, John 15:4 - 5, John 14: 16 - 17, John 10: 27 - 28, and Ephesians 3:16 - 17.

Don't forget to record you daily quiet times in pursuit of consecutive days.  (He so wants you to be still and just be with Him.)

Knowing if Christ is IN you.

#1 - If you did not write down the work from Lesson 1 ( the last blog post), then stop and do that now.

This class is a spiritual pursuit.  But, this is also a class - in a school - where we give report cards and have to give grades and credits based on those grades. (I'm not fussing or mad but smiling at you!)  So read the blog and do the assignments ~ okay?

I hope each of you will voluntarily seek the spiritual rewards that can come from this class, but even if you choose not to do so, you will have to accept the grading that will be given based on your cooperation to do the tasks assigned.

Okay.  Now the reminder from class today: have your time alone with God in prayer, in His Word.  (Seek the goal of consistent time with Him every day.)  Track your progress; encourage your partner!  {God is so looking forward to you coming to talk to Him and draw near to Him.  He really likes you too - 'cause He made you ...}

Lastly, re-read these verses:  Galatians 2:20 and John 14:23, and read the printed lesson from "Day 2" of My First 30 Quiet Times.

What is a Christian? ~ cont'd

Read the whole chapter of John 15.  Make a list of the things found in it that will be "fruit" in a believer's life. (We did not get to this in class Tuesday, as planned.)

Next, read the "Application" at the end of the lesson for "day 1" in the booklet.  Journal some instances you can remember.  Since a few people have not received their books, this is the Application:  Can you think back to times in your life when you knew God was real to you, or to things that weren't mere coincidence but were orchestrated by God in His loving pursuit of you?  (Write these down.)

Read the Scriptures at the bottom of "day 1" and break down verse by verse the actions that take place in them, by God and by a believer.  Make 2 lists that look like this, recording what you find: (I did the first verse as an example.)

What God Does in or to the Believer                         States of Being and Actions of the Believer
            (John 5:24)                                                                            (John 5:24)
1) Gives eternal life                                                    Hears God's Word and believes it
2) Doesn't give judgement to believer                           Passes out of death and into life

Do this with each of these passages: I Peter 3:18, Acts 16:30-31, Romans 10:9-13, 2 Corinthians 5:17, John 1:12, Romans 8:32, Acts 17:28, Philippians 1:6, Jeremiah 1:5 & 8, Ephesians 3:16-17, and John 10:10.

Divide this reading between the days you come to class if needed in order to have daily "quiet time" with God.

Make a goal now to have 30 consecutive days where you interact with God in His Word and through prayer. Choose another person either in your family or a partner in this class whom you can tell what your goal is and with whom you can agree to "partner" to do that!  Use a part of your notebook to write down the things you receive God impressing upon you ~ what He is speaking to you through your time with Him.
